Ongoing road closures - Byfield plantation forest

A number of roads remain closed 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the Byfield plantation forest due to safety concerns regarding large pine trees with the potential to fall across the road following Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

These roads include parts of Clarke Crossing Road, Moores Avenue, 32 Foot Road, Mountain Break and numerous un-named roads. You can see the location of these roads on the interactive notifications map.

These roads will remain closed until we can make the area safe, work that is not likely to be complete until mid 2022. With hundreds of kilometres of roads in the Byfield Plantation Forest that have required attention, along with a vigorous plantation re-establishment program in the years following the cyclone, it has been a time consuming progress to clear each road edge.

We thank you for your patience while this work is completed and remind all visitors to comply with signage  and rules for responsible recreation when visiting the Byfield plantation forest.
