Dust Suppression Treatment Applied to Plantation Roads

We are undertaking road surface treatments on some of our major haulage routes within our plantation licence area to reduce dust on some of our plantation roads. These are not council roads.

The product used is a soluble bitumen which physically binds road materials together to help to stabilise road pavement and to reduce dust hazard and requirements for road watering.

The initial treatment is scarified into the pavement with a grader, rolled and trimmed to final form with follow up treatments every 3 weeks. The current program (subject to change) covers:

  • Cooyal Road (Toolara Forest): 20m at the depot entry.
  • Nursery Road (Toolara Forest): from Tin Can Bay Road to the Nursery access.
  • Mill Road (Tuan Forest): 1 km on the western end, of unsealed road section.
  • Tuan Toolara Road: Andrew Morris Bridge 5km to intersection Cooloola Link Road.
  • Cochranes Road (Beerburrum Forest): 4km from the Bruce Highway to Black Swamp.
  • Rapkins Road (Beerburrum Forest): From Johnston Road to Red Road (4km).

The product is sprayed on as a liquid and cures to a solid form within about an hour. We defer application until after 5pm where possible, to minimise impact to road users.

The manufacturer of the product advises that if there is a need to drive on the road within an hour of application, driving at speeds of 40 km/hr or less will reduce the chance of product spray on vehicle.

If product gets onto to vehicles, drivers may wish to consider spraying the area with WD40 followed by washing with car/truck wash.
