This exciting opportunity comes in the form of our newly developed Resource Data Scientist role, a role which has been designed to develop and maintain high quality standards for forest resource data management.
Here's what you need to thrive in this role:
- Demonstrated knowledge in the field of statistics including regression analysis and sampling methods;
- Demonstrated knowledge in machine learning including supervised and unsupervised learning (e.g. linear regression, decision trees, clustering), model evaluation and model tuning;
- Demonstrated knowledge in data wrangling and data cleaning including handling missing data, normalising, formatting and combining datasets;
- Knowledge and experience with data visualization tools and an understanding of best practice for presenting data through graphs, dashboards and reports;
- Technical skills with programming and database languages including Python, R, and SQL;
- Experience with management of large datasets in a cloud environment such as MS Azure;
- Experience handling geospatial data in the ESRI GIS suite
- Interest in remote sensing data including satellite imagery and airborne LiDAR ; and
- Working rights in Australia or willingness to obtain.
Desirable qualifications:
- A degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Forestry, Environmental Science, Geospatial Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related discipline;
- Unrestricted “C” class drivers’ licence; and
- At least three years’ relevant work experience in a data science, statistics, forest resource planning, biometrician, geospatial or similar field.
