Outdoor Recreation Plan
HQPlantations, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, Sport and Recreation Services Queensland and Moreton Bay Regional Council have developed an Outdoor Recreation Plan to guide cross-tenure infrastructure planning for outdoor recreation activities on public land located in the Inter-Urban Break between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
The Inter-urban Break Outdoor Recreation Plan was partially funded by the Queensland Government’s Department of Housing and Public Works – Sport and Recreation
The plan identifies ways in which the partners can contribute to a range of active and passive recreation opportunities in suitable locations and landscapes.
About the Inter-urban Break
The majority of public land in the Inter-urban Break is National Park or State Forest.
The Inter-urban Break:
is an important area for our region and for South-East Queensland.
comprises 63,000-hectares that overlaps Sunshine Coast Council and Moreton Bay Regional Council areas relatively equally.
includes the iconic Glass House Mountains and scenic Ramsar-protected wetlands of the Pumicestone Passage.
covers plantation and agricultural landscapes, which support a large number of land and water-based activities.
has significant landscape and cultural, environmental, recreational, economic and tourism values.
Outdoor Recreation Activities in the Inter-urban Break
The Inter-urban Break is the premier outdoor recreation area in South-East Queensland.
More than 30 different types of outdoor recreation activities have been identified as regularly occurring in the area. This includes activities such as bushwalking, climbing, four-wheel driving, mountain biking, fishing and motor bike riding.
Many of these activities have differing needs, which creates complexity in facilitating and managing recreation outcomes while minimising user conflict.
We will continue to work with other land managers and stakeholders to support the implementation of the Inter-urban Break Outdoor Recreation Plan to strike a balance between commercial and recreation activities and the protection of this stunning area.
